Students talked about a variety of ways they are engaged in their courses- group work with classmates, rehearsing scenes from a play or script, doing field work to complete photo assignments, and being engaged in more traditional ways like listening to instructors' lectures and taking notes. An interesting theme that we realized is that many times students were expected to both give and receive critiques not just from the instructor and classmates, but sometimes from the college at large such as when they were expected to present final assignments to the public in the Movement for Actors class, receive comments from the public regarding their pieces selected for the college art and photo shows, and present their side of a debate.
